Ken Skates and Sir Peter Hendy to give evidence on Welsh rail infrastructure

The Welsh Government’s Minister for the Economy, Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates MS and Network Rail’s Sir Peter Hendy CBE will face questions on topics including the state of investment in the Welsh railway system, and the Union Connectivity Review from MPs on the Welsh Affairs Committee when it resumes its railway infrastructure in Wales inquiry on Thursday.

The session comes at a critical juncture for rail investment. Although the UK Government is undertaking the Union Connectivity Review, led by Sir Peter Hendy, to examine how transport infrastructure can drive economic growth across the UK, uncertainties remain over the impact coronavirus will have on investment and passenger trends.
Among the topics the Committee are expected to question Sir Peter and Mr Skates on are;
- the Union Connectivity Review and what it could mean for Wales;
- the potential implications of further devolution of railway infrastructure;
- levels of investment in Wales’ rail network; and
- the impact of Covid-19 on rail services.
