Local government representatives questioned on the Spending Review

The Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee hears from local government representatives and economic research institutes on the current financial health of councils. It will look at the additional challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic and the quality of support provided by central government. It will also examine how local authorities can be better supported to deliver high quality services in the long-term.

On 21 October, the Treasury announced its intention to carry out a spending review to set departmental and capital budgets for 2021-22 and provide the financial resources to respond to Covid-19. The review will include the allocation of resources to support public services and investment in infrastructure.
