How soon can floating offshore wind be rolled out in the Celtic Sea?

20 October 2022

On Wednesday 26 October at 9.30am the Welsh Affairs Committee will be holding an evidence session exploring floating offshore wind (FLOW) in the Celtic Sea, as the UK seeks to harness its renewable energy potential.

Scope of the session

Over three panels of experts, the Committee will be assessing the potential benefits for Wales of FLOW, and evaluate what is being done to accelerate its roll-out. The session will also look at some of the challenges in rolling out FLOW in the region, such as grid capacity and supply chains, along with the role of port infrastructure and how a freeport bid from Port Talbot and the Port of Milford Haven might contribute to the sector.

The evidence session follows a recent report publication by RenewableUK that states the global pipeline of floating offshore wind projects has almost doubled in the last year. The report states that the UK continues to lead the market, thanks in part to a wave of projects proposed for the Celtic Sea.
