This inquiry on geothermal technologies is part of the Environmental Audit Committee’s Technological Innovations and Climate Change inquiry. The inquiry will focus on Enhanced Geothermal Systems and Mine Water Energy Systems, investigating the potential scale of their deployment in the UK to provide heat and power. Consideration will be given to what role they could have in the UK’s Net Zero Strategy and the British Energy Security Strategy, where they currently do not feature. The committee will also consider the barriers to deployment, economic impact, and environmental impact of these technologies.
