Devolution and retained EU law to be examined in Committee session

13 May 2022

The European Scrutiny Committee is to examine EU law rolled over following the UK’s withdrawal from the block and the different processes involved in amending it in each constituent part of the UK.

Academics from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will give evidence on the matter and how the laws interact with the varying legal codes across the UK as part of the Committee’s Retained EU Law Inquiry.

Proposals for a Brexit Freedoms Bill that would allow for retained EU law to be more easily amended were outlined in the Queen’s speech delivered by Prince Charles on 10 May.
