Witnesses

Tuesday 20 July

At 11.45am

  • Kwasi Kwarteng, Secretary of State, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
  • Chris Pincher, Minister for Housing, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

The Committee’s public evidence session forms part of the inquiry into Decarbonising Heat in Homes, which has scrutinised policies, priorities and timelines needed to ensure the UK gets on track to reach its Net Zero 2050 ambition.

The inquiry has focused on issues such as how the Government could reduce the cost to consumers of switching to low carbon heating systems.

The Committee has also examined issues including the Government’s role in engaging with households about the need to decarbonise domestic heat; protecting consumers, especially the fuel-poor; and the role of local authorities and other housing providers to deliver low-carbon heating technologies.

Efforts to decarbonise the UK economy are under the spotlight as the Government prepares to host the United Nations COP26 event in Glasgow this autumn.

The Secretary of State will also be answering questions (from 10.45am) in relation to the Committee’s inquiry into Liberty Steel and the Future of the Steel Industry in the UK.
