Committee Chair comments on BBC on-air talent figures
11 July 2018
Damian Collins MP, the Chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee, has urged for transparency on reporting of top BBC talent pay.
Chair's comment
Damian Collins MP, Chair of Committee, said:
"There should be full disclosure of all top talent pay from the BBC. Transparent reporting can only help taxpayers, the public and MPs to scrutinise and assess the performance of our public broadcaster.
However, given our ongoing interest in equal pay and the gender pay gap at the BBC our Committee were disappointed in the figures released. None of the top 10 ten earners are women. While we recognise some progress – the BBC must stay focused on ensuring equality.
We have also made clear our view that the BBC must put right historic wrongs connected to the use of public service companies. We will be following up with the BBC on this during our hearing with them in September and report on these issues shortly afterwards."
