Committee questions Ocado, tech sector and academics on automation

1 April 2019

The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee hears from online supermarket Ocado, the tech sector and academics on how business is using automation and robotics and the impact on jobs.

Purpose of the session

During the first session, with Ocado, robotic technology firm Tharsus and industry body TechUK, the Committee will examine how and why business chooses to automate and the support available to do so. Questions to the second panel are likely to focus on the future of work, how jobs are likely to change and the skills needed in the future workplace.

The Committee's inquiry is looking at the impact of automation on workers and benefits and choices for consumers. It is also examining the actions needed to reskill affected workers and the role of business and Government.
