Committee examine automation and future of work

The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee hears from industry and the tech sector as part of its inquiry into automation and the future of work, looking at its likely impact on UK businesses and the potential it has for productivity, growth and reindustrialisation.

The BEIS Committee will question witnesses include representatives from businesses such as Siemens and organisations including the Royal Academy of Engineering and InnoTecUK.
Purpose of the session
The hearing is likely to examine questions including whether the Government is setting the right policies to support the development of new automation technologies as a UK industry, the opportunities for reindustrialisation in the UK offered by automation, the skills needed for automation to succeed, and what businesses need to do to prepare for automation.
As part of the inquiry, the Committee will also be considering the impact of automation on workers, and the potential benefits and choices for consumers.
