Lords debate impact of Brexit on energy security

Inquiry
In its inquiry, the EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee investigated the impact Brexit would have on the UK's energy security. The report concluded that Brexit will put the UK's current frictionless trade in energy with the EU at risk, and called on the Government to set out how it will work with the EU to anticipate and manage supply shortages, and to assess what impact leaving the Internal Energy Market would have on the price paid by consumers for their energy. It also raised concerns about the impact of leaving Euratom (the European Atomic Energy Community), and of the impact of Brexit on energy arrangements on the island of Ireland.
Speakers
Lord Teverson, Chairman of the EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee, will open the debate and set out the Committee's key findings and concerns. Members will then debate the issues before the Rt Hon Lord Henley, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, responds for the Government.
