Post-Brexit enforcement of environmental law

Inquiry

In February 2017, the Committee published a report on Brexit: environment and climate change, which concluded that "an effective and independent domestic enforcement mechanism will be necessary, in order to fill the vacuum left by the European Commission in ensuring the compliance of the Government and public authorities with environmental obligations." Now that the Government has published plans for a new Office for Environmental Protection, the EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee will be examining whether their proposal will fill the gap left by leaving the EU.
