Lords debate impact of Brexit on UK-Irish relations

On Tuesday 5 September, the House of Lords debates the EU Committee's report on Brexit: UK-Irish relations.

The debate

The report by the EU Select Committee was published on 12 December 2016. The key areas considered in the report include:

  • The economic implications of Brexit for Ireland, North and South
  • The impact on the Common Travel Area (the right of UK and Irish citizens to reside and work in both countries).
  • The future of the Irish land border.
  • The possible impact of Brexit upon the Northern Ireland peace process and on North-South and East-West relations.

Speakers

The debate will be introduced by Lord Jay of Ewelme, on behalf of the Chair of the European Union Committee. Northern Ireland Office minister Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth will respond for the Government.
