Government responds to report on a framework for modern employment

16 April 2018

The Work and Pensions and Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committees publish the Government response to their joint report on a framework for modern employment.

Close the self-employment loopholes

In November 2017, the Work and Pensions and Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committees published a joint report and draft Bill to close the loopholes that allow companies to use bogus "self-employment" status as a route to cheap labour and tax avoidance, saying the law must not allow willingness to exploit workers to be a competitive advantage.

The joint report from the Committees followed evidence sessions with Matthew Taylor, on his report Good Work: the Taylor Review of Modern Working Practices, and with Sir David Metcalf,  Director of Labour Market Enforcement.
