Purpose of the session

As part of its inquiry into prison provision, the Committee has visited every prison in Wales and has taken evidence from various witnesses including former offenders, unions, the Chief Inspector of Prisons and those with an interest in promoting education in Welsh prisons.

In this final session, the Committee will examine issues uncovered during the Committee's in-depth inquiry into prison provision, such as the placement of prisoners far from their homes and provision for women offenders from Wales.

The Committee will also discuss the differing roles for the UK Government and the Welsh Government in provision of prison services, and how this process can be managed more effectively.

The Committee will also consider the treatment of and conditions for Welsh prisoners, and examine issues such as healthcare, deaths in prison and Welsh language provision.
