The Committee's inquiry focuses on the importance of tourism to the economy and society of Northern Ireland more widely and the ways in which the industry could be improved or further supported. In this session the Committee examines what improvements could be made to transport infrastructure in Northern Ireland in order to make tourism across the country more accessible. The Committee will hear from representatives of key transport organisations in Northern Ireland, such as Belfast International Airport and the Federation of Passenger Transport for Northern Ireland.
In particular, the session will focus on the rate of national and international flights coming into Northern Ireland, the potential to develop the cruise industry in Northern Ireland and various improvements that could made to road and rail infrastructure to improve internal transport. So far in the inquiry, the Committee has held evidence sessions focusing on screen tourism, Troubles-related tourism, and the economic contribution of tourism.
