The Future of Afghanistan

Inquiry

The Committee examined Afghanistan as one in a series of studies the Committee will undertake into DFID’s work in fragile and conflict-affected states. Afghanistan is unique because those supporting the insurgency regard coalition forces as belligerent occupiers and this creates confusion in the minds of some Afghans about the motivations of donor assistance. The Committee Report concluded that UK Aid should be used to improve the lives of Afghan women and the final Report also called for DFID to focus less on creating a viable state and more on delivering effective development.
