The Committee takes evidence from Robin Walker MP, Minister at the Department for Exiting the EU, and Sir Tim Barrow, UK Permanent Representative to the EU. The session focuses on the policy, legal and financial implications for the UK arising from the Phase 1 Agreement from December 2017 on the UK's financial contributions and the Irish border question. The Committee also explores the implications of the proposed post-Brexit transitional agreement.

The first evidence session examined the outcome of "phase 1" negotiations on EU citizens resident in the U.K. on exit day - who will be covered, what rights they will have, the process for acquiring settled status and how the deal will be given effect in U.K. law. It also explored differences between the EU and U.K. positions on the rights of EU citizens who arrive in the U.K. during a port-Brexit transitional period.
