EU Port Regulation call for views

Inquiry

The European Scrutiny Committee is consulting the ports employers and trade unions about their view of the latest developments on proposed amendments to the Commission's proposals. The Committee would also welcome the views of the wider public.

In 2013 the Commission proposed a Regulation about market access to port services, port charges and financial transparency. The proposals would adversely affect the UK ports industry, since, unlike most European ports, UK ports are largely privately owned and operated, and the proposals do not take adequate account of this. The European Scrutiny Committee of the House of Commons has questioned the need for a Regulation at all.

The Committee has been monitoring the Council and European Parliament discussions of the proposal. The European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee has now proposed amendments to the Commission’s proposals and the proposals will go forward for discussion with the Council.
