The purpose of this evidence session is to question the Minister on:
the Government’s failure to engage fully and promptly with the Committee on the range of measures proposed by the Commission to respond to the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean, as well as its failure to schedule an opt-in debate on the Commission’s first relocation proposal
the EU’s response to the crisis and the principle of solidarity and fair sharing of responsibility
the implications of the crisis for the Schengen free movement area and for the operation of the Dublin system
the impact on the Government’s renegotiation of the terms of the UK’s membership of the European Union
