European Scrutiny in the House of Commons

Inquiry

The Committee conducted an inquiry into the European Scrutiny system in the House of Commons. In the present Parliament the Committee has published a series of reports on: discrete scrutiny issues, for example reasoned opinions on subsidiarity and opt-in decisions; primary legislation in the form of the European Union Bill; and significant developments at EU level such as the SCG Treaty. It agreed that it was now time to conduct a broad-ranging inquiry into the scrutiny process.
