Purpose of the session
Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) accounts for 40% of EU expenditure. The Common Fisheries Policy has profound effects on national fishing industry.
Brexit has the capacity to radically change the UK approach to agriculture and fisheries. At the same time, the UK remains a member of the EU and is involved in current negotiations on these topics.
The session will explore
- the Department's approach to ongoing EU policy discussions while the UK remains a Member;
- the Department's approach to cross-cutting and specific Brexit-related issues in agriculture and fisheries; and
- the Department's approach to the development of future domestic policy.
- The Government's position in negotiations for the UK to leave the EU.
