ICAI's review on The UK’s approach to tackling modern slavery through the aid programme

Inquiry

Report and Government response published

The Sub-Committee explored the issue with the ICAI commissioner concerned with the review and also learned of the experience of victims of modern slavery from those with knowledge of the situation, including a survivor. Members also examined the effectiveness of the Government’s strategy for tackling modern slavery with key academic experts.

The Sub-Committee's report expressed concern about how effective the UK’s work on tackling modern slavery had been. It found there had been limited long-term impact from this work, that the UK’s interventions did not always take advantage of existing international interventions in the area and that the government could do more for survivors of modern slavery.
