Evidence session with Metro Mayors in English devolution inquiry

On 30 November, the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee will hold an evidence session with Metro Mayors and local council representatives as part of its inquiry into devolution in England.

Purpose of the session
The committee will take evidence from the North of Tyne Combined Authority Mayor, Jamie Driscoll, the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority Mayor, James Palmer, and representatives from Durham and Hertfordshire Councils.
The session will examine the contrasting experiences of regions with devolution deals to those without, including those which may do so in the future.
It will investigate how powers devolved to Metro Mayors have been utilised and how effective scrutiny mechanisms have been.
The Committee will also consider if devolution of further powers would help boost regional growth and service provision.
