Afghanistan and aid sector challenges examined by MPs
The International Development Committee will hear evidence on the situation of humanitarian organisations in Afghanistan at 2.30 pm on Tuesday 7 December.
Likely areas of questioning
In a one-off evidence session, MPs will seek to identify key lessons learned following the UK withdrawal from Afghanistan, with a focus on the resulting impact on aid organisations and the people working for them, and how to prevent similar impacts for other countries in the future. Other likely topics of discussion could include how much notice the Government gave to organisations in receipt of UK aid around routes to evacuate staff at risk, and the extent to which the Government has demonstrated a duty of care to people working in the aid sector in Afghanistan.
Members will also ask witnesses for an update on the current humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, and the challenges organisations are now facing in Afghanistan.
