UK Government Ministers to be quizzed on benefits system in Wales

The Welsh Affairs Committee will hear from David Rutley MP, Minister for Welfare Delivery at the Department for Work and Pensions, and David TC Davies MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Wales, as part of its inquiry into the benefits system in Wales.

Likely areas of questioning

MPs are likely to use the session to explore:

• The lessons learned during the pandemic and the changes made to benefits by the UK Government;
• The complexity of the different benefits and allowances available from the UK and Welsh Governments and local authorities;
• Levels of communication between the UK and Welsh Governments on the latter’s Universal Basic Income pilot scheme.

This is the inquiry’s fifth and final evidence session. Previous sessions have explored  the impact of the pandemic on the system, the adequacy of support on offer, and Universal Basic Income.
