Environment Secretary of State questioned on implications of EU agreement
The EU Environment Sub-Committee will be hearing evidence from Defra Secretary of State George Eustice on the implications of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement for food, fishing, environment and chemicals.
The EU Environment Sub-Committee will also be hearing evidence on the implications of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement for the UK energy sector, consumers, and decarbonisation from members of the industry.
A first panel involves representatives from Energy UK, the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET), National Grid and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment.
The Committee will ask the first panel about:
- Their overall reaction to the Agreement
- Implications for electricity trading
- Linking emissions trading systems
- Cooperation on North Sea energy
- The Nuclear Cooperation Agreement
The Committee will then focus their questions for the Secretary of State on the content of the Agreement in relation to food, fishing, environment and chemicals, any challenges arising from those provisions, and where the UK-EU relationship should go from here.
