Disability employment inquiry: Work and Pensions Committee to question disability charities
The Work and Pensions Committee hears from disability charities as part of its inquiry into how disabled people can be better supported to start and stay in work and the effectiveness of the Government’s recent efforts to narrow the disability employment gap.
Meeting details
The latest session focuses on the specific barriers to work faced by people with different disabilities and health conditions and the role of employers in helping disabled people to stay in work.
MPs are likely to ask about the effectiveness of support provided through the benefit system, the performance of schemes such as Access to Work, and the effectiveness of Jobcentres and Work Coaches.
There could also be questions on the likely impact of proposed changes to the Work Capability Assessment.
The inquiry follows on from the Committee’s 2021 report, which warned that DWP’s national programme for supporting disabled people in work was not working. In the first oral evidence session, the Committee took evidence from charities, academics and policy specialists.
