Minister to be questioned on Gibraltar border negotiations
Overseas Territories Minister, David Rutley, will be questioned by the European Scrutiny Committee over the Government’s negotiations with the European Union on the operation of the Gibraltarian border.
Meeting details
The two sides are reportedly nearing a deal that would include an EU presence at the airport, which doubles up as an RAF base, and regulatory alignment with EU border rules.
After Brexit, Gibraltar, whose foreign affairs are looked after by the UK Government, was left out of the trade deal with the block that determined, amongst other things, rules for the movement of people and goods across the border. Gibraltar is reliant on its frontier with Spain being as open as possible for workers and goods.
