Levelling-Up Committee questions Government Minister for Office for Local Government (Oflog) inquiry
On Monday 22 April, the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC) Committee concludes the public evidence sessions for its inquiry on the Office for Local Government (Oflog) with questions to Simon Hoare MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Local Government, Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
Meeting details
The Committee’s inquiry is looking at the remit of this new body and how it will engage with local authorities to help raise performance and improve outcomes for people and places (inquiry terms of reference ). It will also examine the content of Oflog’s draft Corporate Plan and its first remit letter from the Secretary of State, both published following the Committee’s first oral evidence session in February.
The cross-party group of MPs will question the Minister and Department official on topics including:
- Oflog’s purpose, role and priorities
- How Oflog will collect and use data via its Data Explorer
- Oflog’s role in local audit
- How Oflog can identify financial problems in local authorities at an earlier stage
- Oflog’s ‘Early Warning Conversations’ with local authorities
- Oflog’s relationship with the sector
- Governance arrangements, including Oflog’s independence
- The appointment of a new interim Chair following the resignation of Lord Morse
