Operation Kenova interim report to be examined by MPs
The past and present commanders of Operation Kenova, Jon Boutcher and Sir Iain Livingstone, will be questioned by the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee on the investigation’s interim report.
Meeting details
Kenova investigated the actions of a British agent known as Stakeknife during the Troubles and how the UK intelligence services handled them. Stakeknife was known to be a high-ranking member of the IRA’s enforcement unit that identified, kidnapped, tortured and killed informants.
The interim report found that Stakeknife was involved in crimes including murder and concluded that the British Army had exaggerated the number of lives he had saved by the intelligence he gave. It also found that the authorities ignored warnings of threats to life and effectively obstructed investigations.
