Committee to take evidence on university spin-out companies

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will hold an evidence session with Prof. Chas Bountra, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Innovation at the University of Oxford, and Dr Andrew Williamson, Managing Partner at Cambridge Innovation Capital.

The session will focus on the independent review of university spin-out companies; the challenges faced by companies wanting to scale up; and what the Government could do to encourage individuals to move across and between academia, industry and the public sector.

Possible question areas include: 

  • The independent review of university spin-out companies, co-authored by Dr Williamson 
  • The major factors preventing UK companies from scaling up their operations 
  • The actions proposed by the Government to address the independent review’s recommendations 
  • The longer-term challenges for university spin-outs 
  • Whether there is a need for specific support for startups from other disciplines aside from life-sciences
