MPs to question Lord Maude on his review into civil service reform
The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee will question Lord Maude on his recent report into Civil Service governance and accountability.
Meeting details
Lord Maude’s report recommended changes to how the Civil Service is led and advised the separation of the roles of Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service, as well as the breaking up of the Treasury. MPs will scrutinise these recommendations, along with the suggestion to allow Ministers a greater level of involvement in some civil service appointments.
Lord Maude was appointed to conduct a review into governance and accountability in the Civil Service in July 2022 by the then Minister for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency, Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg. The Independent Review was published in November 2023.
In next week’s session, PACAC will investigate the report’s findings that Civil Service arrangements for governance and accountability are “unclear, opaque and incomplete”.
