Statutory Sick Pay inquiry: MPs to question academics and employee representatives
In the first oral evidence session of its Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) inquiry, the Work and Pensions Committee questions academic researchers and employee representatives.
The inquiry is examining the effectiveness of SSP and how it might be reformed to better support the recovery and return to work of people who claim it.
Meeting details
Questions to the first panel are likely to explore the history and purpose of SSP, the availability of, and attitudes to, sick pay, and the minimum income standard.
The second panel, featuring the TUC, Centre for Progressive Change and Scope, could be asked about the reforms needed from the perspective of workers, as well as the cost to businesses of sickness and how SSP compares with sick pay arrangements in other countries.
