In Wednesday’s evidence session, the Committee will question representatives of local government bodies, including organisations such as the Local Government Association (LGA), London Councils, County Council Network, and District Councils Network (full witness line-up included further below).

The cross-party group of MPs will question witnesses on issues relating to local government funding and spending, the role of central government, the financial management at councils, and the increasing demands on local services.

In the wake of the recent issuing of a section 114 notice to Birmingham city council, the Committee is also likely to examine the effectiveness of early warning signs at national level and how local government bodies can maintain effective financial oversight, control and scrutiny.
