First Sea Lord Ben Key to give evidence on Armed Forces readiness
The Defence Committee holds an evidence session hearing from the First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Sir Ben Key. This session forms part of the Committee's inquiry into Armed Forces readiness.
Having last week heard evidence from Chief the General Staff, General Sir Patrick Sanders, and Air Chief Marshal, Sir Richard Knighton, the Committee turns its attention to the Naval Service.
The session asks how ready the Navy is for the different types of challenges and potential threats which the UK faces. Questions are likely to examine what steps the Navy has taken to prepare for warfighting and where the pinch points and gaps are, as well as how the Navy assesses its readiness for different types of operations. The Committee may also ask what impact recent events in the Middle East have had on Naval readiness.
