Former defence chiefs to give evidence on Armed Forces readiness
Next week the Defence Committee will question two former Chiefs of the Defence Staff (CDS) on the UK’s military readiness.
Across two sessions, MPs will assess the UK’s present readiness for war and biggest capability gaps for the country’s Armed Forces.
On Tuesday 20 June, at 10.30, MPs will hear evidence from General the Lord Houghton of Richmond, CDS from 2013-2016, and on Wednesday 21 June at 10.45, they will hear from General Sir Nick Carter, CDS from 2018-2021.
Likely areas of questioning
Lord Houghton and Sir Nick Carter may also be asked about the MOD’s system for measuring readiness, the engagement between the military and ministers, and whether readiness is a high enough political priority to deal with present threats to the UK.
Both sessions form part of the Defence Committee’s inquiry into Armed Forces readiness.
