The Welsh Affairs Committee will be holding its final evidence session as part of the ‘Broadcasting in Wales’ inquiry, hearing from the Welsh Language Commissioner and Minister of State, Rt Hon Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP.

In the first of the two panels, MPs will hear from the Welsh Language Commissioner, Efa Gruffudd Jones, and the Strategic Director at the Welsh Language Commission, Lowri Williams. During previous evidence sessions with streaming giants and sporting organisations, there was a desire to ensure that Welsh language content is available to viewers. The Committee may also discuss Welsh language television and radio, and the impact of social media on the use of the Welsh language.

In the second panel, Rt Hon Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP, Minister of State for Media, Tourism and Creative Industries, will then take questions from the Committee. This will offer members the opportunity to reflect on evidence heard during the inquiry, ranging from the changing nature of broadcasting to sports broadcasting rights, and from local radio to streaming services.
