On Monday afternoon, the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC) Committee will question Rachel Maclean MP, Minister of State (Housing and Planning), Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, as part of its inquiry into the Government’s reforms to national planning policy.
The session will be an opportunity for the Minister to outline the Government’s initial response to the recent consultation on proposed changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and the wider planning system.
Likely areas of questioning
The cross-party group of MPs is examining how the reforms might affect housing provision across England, the primacy of local plans, and issues surrounding the Government’s stated commitment to its housing target.
In addition to examining the Government’s proposed changes to the NPPF, the Committee is also looking at areas including the approach to developing National Development Management Policies (NDMPs), and other proposals for planning reform resulting from the Levelling-up and Regeneration Bill.
The evidence session follows the deadline (on 2 March) of the Government’s consultation on reforms to national planning policy.
On 13 March, the LUHC Committee questioned witnesses from the planning, local authority, and housing sectors on issues surrounding the Government’s consultation on reforms to national planning policy.
