Food sector experts, including the Government’s former independent adviser on the UK’s food system, to give evidence to EAC

Leon co-founder and author of the National Food Strategy Henry Dimbleby, the President of the National Farmers Union (NFU), Minette Batters, and representatives from ASDA, Dairy UK and the Food Farming and Countryside Commission will be giving evidence to the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC). The focus of the evidence session will be on how resilient the UK’s food supply is amid the growing threat of climate change and biodiversity loss.

This will be the third evidence session of the Committee’s Environmental Change and Food Security inquiry, which is exploring the UK’s preparedness and resilience to future food supply stresses or shocks caused by climate change, biodiversity loss and other environmental changes.

Issues that are likely to be covered include:

  • The Government’s Food Strategy for England;
  • The possibility of standards for sustainability metrics for farmers and food manufacturers;
  • Environmental impact labelling;
  • What qualifies as a sustainable diet;
  • Reducing high-impact meat and dairy consumption;
  • Land use and trade;
  • The impact of the extreme weather events in 2022 and 2023.
