MPs to quiz Chris Packham and other experts on insect decline
The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee continues its inquiry into insect decline and UK food security with an evidence session hearing from TV naturalist Chris Packham, among other experts.
Meeting details
In the second session of its inquiry into insect decline and UK food security, MPs will begin by asking the first panel about the success and required trade-offs of current conservation initiatives, such as Sites of Specific Scientific Interest, agri-environment schemes and nature reserves. For the second panel, MPs will focus on biodiversity in urban areas and consider how urban spaces can contribute to slowing insect decline.
In the final panel, MPs will ask television presenter and naturalist Chris Packham about his work on insect decline, the benefits of citizen science projects such as the Big Butterfly Count, and whether the UK’s current biodiversity initiatives are fit for purpose.
