How can a sustainable timber sector be supported to meet the UK’s growing demand?

The Environmental Audit Committee will be hearing from two panels on how the UK can deliver a sustainable timber sector, and how timber production can be upscaled whilst also delivering benefits for nature and climate change mitigation.

At 3:15pm: Oral evidence
Inquiry Sustainable timber and deforestation

The first panel will hear from representatives of the land management, forestry, nursery and timber sector to discuss how the UK can source sustainable timber to meet growing demand domestically and through imports. Members are likely to quiz experts on the opportunities and barriers to landowners, foresters and nurseries to deliver tree planting and increased timber production.

The Committee will then hear from the RSPB, Natural England and a forest ecology academic in order to understand how timber production in the UK can be upscaled whilst also delivering benefits for nature and climate change mitigation.
