Climate Minister Graham Stuart will appear before the Welsh Affairs Committee to discuss what the UK Government is doing to support the floating offshore wind (FLOW) sector in the Celtic Sea.
The Celtic Sea has been identified as a major development opportunity for FLOW within the British Energy Security Strategy. The Strategy set out a target to generate 50GW of offshore wind and 5GW of FLOW by 2030, backed by up to £160 million of investment in ports and supply chains and £31 million in research and development funding.
During the evidence session with the Minister, the Committee is likely to ask about the role of the Crown Estate in delivering FLOW in the Celtic Sea, the UK supply chain and preparing the grid for the increased demand. In its report last month, the Committee warned that grid capacity constraints are holding up progress on renewable energy generation in Wales.
