New Energy Security and Net Zero Committee to hold stakeholder event in Parliament to help shape scrutiny priorities
9 May 2023
The new Energy Security and Net Zero (ESNZ) Committee is set to hold an introductory event with stakeholders and organisations as it launches its work scrutinising the Government’s approach to securing the UK’s energy supply and cutting emissions.
The Committee was set up following the Government’s decision to establish a new Department for Energy Security and Net Zero as part of changes to the machinery of government. Angus Brendan MacNeil MP was elected Chair of the new Committee on April 26, while other Members are expected to be appointed in the coming weeks.
The event with stakeholders, industry groups and policy experts to be held in Parliament in June will help to inform the Committee as it sets its priorities and programme of work.
Chair comment
Angus Brendan MacNeil, Chair of the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee, said: “To deliver the twin aims of having a secure and affordable supply of energy while achieving a net zero carbon economy will require carefully balancing a spectrum of policies and interests. That is why the Committee will want to hear as wide a range of views as possible from people and organisations across the energy and environmental sectors, as we set our priorities for holding the Government to account on its delivery of one of the most important challenges of our generation.”
Organisations interested in attending the stakeholder event are invited to contact the clerk of the Committee by emailing CommonsESNZ@parliament.uk
