Treasury Sub-Committee appoints specialist advisers to bolster financial services regulation scrutiny

6 October 2022

The Treasury Sub-Committee on Financial Services Regulations has appointed two specialist advisers to assist in its scrutiny of draft regulatory proposals for financial services.

Simon Gleeson is a partner at global law firm Clifford Chance, and has acted as a legal adviser to UK banking and financial services industry bodies.

Sue Lewis is a former Chair of the Financial Services Consumer Panel and is now a consultant providing advice to international organisations on financial services consumer protection regulation, financial education, and financial inclusion.

Chair's comments

Commenting on the appointments, Rt. Hon. Mel Stride MP, Chair of the Treasury Committee, said:

"The Sub-Committee will add whatever further resource to its Financial Regulation Unit as may be necessary to ensure our continued effective oversight of financial services regulation.”

The Sub-Committee has been set up by the cross-party Treasury Committee to scrutinise newly proposed draft financial services regulations. In July, MPs took oral evidence on the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA)’s ‘Strong and Simple Framework’ consultation. Correspondence with the PRA following the session can be found here. Written evidence submitted in advance of the session can be found here.
