Committee again expresses deep concerns about security and policing measures post December

22 July 2020

The Chair of the EU Security and Justice Sub-Committee, Lord Ricketts, has again written to the Government raising Members' deep concerns about its plans to replace EU based security and policing measures with inadequate non-EU alternatives after 31 December 2020 if a deal with the EU on such matters cannot be agreed

Background

The Committee's letter continues correspondence with the Rt Hon James Brokenshire MP, Security Minister's following his appearance before the Security and Justice Sub-Committee on Tuesday 16 June 2020. In the letter, the Committee cites evidence from Deputy Assistant Commissioner Richard Martin, the National Police Chiefs' Council's Lead for Brexit, which predicts a considerable impact on UK policing and, therefore, public safety should the negotiations between the UK and the EU fail.

The Committee looks forward to considering the Government's response.
