DCMS Committee questions Minister on Gambling Commission regulation
4 July 2022
In this fifth session of the What next for the National Lottery? inquiry, MPs are expected to question Chris Philp, the Minister responsible for the National Lottery. The Committee is expected to examine how the Government will ensure that the new National Lottery owners, Allwyn, do not continue the previous owners’ streak of failing to secure promised returns to good causes.

The Minister may also be asked whether the Government should impose an expenses cap on the National Lottery after reports that advertising spending has increased sharply. Potential harms are also expected to be discussed, including the increasing use of instant-win games on the National Lottery site, loopholes allowing 16-17 year-olds to gamble online, and the lack of BeGambleAware branding on National Lottery advertising.
