Conduct Committee publish report upholding Baroness Tonge's appeal
20 April 2021
The House of Lords Conduct Committee has today published a report upholding Baroness Tonge’s appeal against the findings of the Commissioner for Standards investigation into allegations of bullying. The allegations against Baroness Tonge have been dismissed.
Baroness Tonge, who retired from the House of Lords in February, was accused of bullying by a member of the public in relation to a strongly worded letter she sent her. In the letter Baroness Tonge asked the complainant to stop associating her with the complainant’s views on female genital mutilation. The Conduct Committee agreed with Baroness Tonge’s appeal that the Commissioner’s finding that her behaviour amounted to bullying was ‘plainly wrong’.
