Dean Russell MP selected as Chair of the Speaker’s Advisory Committee on Works of Art

22 October 2021

The Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, has appointed Dean Russell MP to Chair the Speaker's Advisory Committee on Works of Art.

Dean Russell MP has accepted the Speaker's invitation and will Chair the Speaker's Advisory Committee on Works of Art for the remainder of the current Parliament.

Dean Russell MP first joined the Committee in May 2020 following the 2019 election – in which Dean himself was first elected to Parliament. As well as taking a keen interest in the work of the Committee, particularly in the development of new commissions and acquisitions and the work relating to the review of the Parliamentary Art Collection, Dean is also a practicing artist. Four Prime Ministers have signed his artworks over the years, with each piece then auctioned for a range of good causes and events.

Dean Russell MP said:

“As a keen artist myself it is a privilege to have been appointed by Mr Speaker as the new Chair of the Works of Art Committee. I would like to thank Hywel Williams for his excellent work as Chair, and it is an honour to take up the role.”

Further changes to the composition of the Committee include the resignation of the former Chair, Hywel Williams MP, who has now left the Committee. The Member for Glasgow North, Patrick Grady MP, has taken his place.
