Background

On 23 April 2018 the Examiners of the House of Commons and the House of Lords met to assess whether the Petition for Additional Provision (March 2018) relating to the High Speed Rail (West Midlands - Crewe) Bill met the requirements of the Standing Orders of both Houses.

The following Report from the Examiners of Petitions for Private Bills was referred to the Committee:

The Examiners certified that certain Standing Orders apply to the Petition for Additional Provision deposited in March 2018 in relation to the High Speed Rail (West Midlands–Crewe) Bill (currently before the House of Commons) and that, of those which are applicable, Standing Orders 4, 4A, 10, 10A, 11, 12A, 13, 27, 27A, 34, 36, 39, 41 and 45 have not been complied with.

Outcome

The Committee met (in public) at 2 pm on 23 May 2018 to consider what action take in relation to the Standing Orders which have not been complied with. A Statement of Fact (pdf 459KB) (pdf, 459KB) was submitted on behalf of the Secretary of State. The Committee decided to dispense with all of the Standing Orders which had not been complied with.
