Speaker’s Committee on the Electoral Commission to meet candidate for Electoral Commission chair

The Speaker’s Committee on the Electoral Commission will hold a public meeting with John Pullinger CB, proposed candidate for Chair of the Electoral Commission, on Monday 1 March at 9.45am, before deciding whether to recommend him to the House of Commons for appointment.
Mr Pullinger’s selection as proposed candidate followed a fair and open competition run by an appointed panel, in accordance with a procedure put in place and overseen by the Speaker’s Committee.
John Pullinger was Librarian of the House of Commons from 2004 to 2014 and National Statistician from 2014 to 2019. His CV is included below.
The Committee is expected to question John Pullinger on his suitability for the post, his vision for the Electoral Commission, and his personal independence.
The Chair of the Electoral Commission is appointed by Her Majesty The Queen on an Address from the House of Commons. A document giving more detail on the appointment process is included below.
